Men’s Breakfast Foxton

‘Men’s Breakfast’ Schedule for 2017

For the Benefice of Fowlmere, Foxton, Shepreth & Thriplow.

At 8.30 on the 3rd Saturday of the month in Foxton Village hall

Next Meeting is Saturday 23rd September in Foxton Village Hall @ 8.30

Our Men’s breakfast in June was at Tony Dean’s farm in the big green barn at Fowlmere. We enjoyed breakfast in a bap cooked on the BBQ by Adrian and heard the amusing and fascinating “confessions of a Methodist Minister” from our speaker the Revd. Colin Smith, Superintendent Minister from the Cambridge Methodist Circuit.

Colin started his career as a Barrister at the Inns of Court in London following a period when he served voluntarily with the Citizen’s Advice Bureaux and witnessed the inequalities and difficulties of those he met. He felt the call to serve and trained as a Methodist minister where his legal background proved very helpful in the progression from legal law to moral law.

His descriptions of some of his early experiences as a probationer and then as a qualified Minister were very enlightening and told in a humorous but humble way raising pathos and laughter in equal measure. We heard what happened and how he dealt with the situation that every married couple dreads when the minister conducting the service asks the question “if anyone knows of any just reason why these two should not be married” and two members of the congregation raised their hands and did exactly that!

We are grateful to Colin for his talk and all those who helped set up the barn and clear away afterwards; particularly to Tony Dean for letting us use his barn and providing a tractor ride to the wild flower meadow afterwards.

Men’s Breakfast donated £70 to Action for Children gifted by the members who attended.

As usual there will be no Men’s Breakfast in August because of Holidays. Our next Breakfast meeting will be in September and will be a week later than usual as a number of our regular members will be away in France on a cultural exchange trip.
